4th of July

For the last four years we’ve been able to watch the fireworks from our deck, super convenient and nice.  Invite friends over, have a bbq, watch the fireworks.  Last year though the trees had grown so much that we could only see the top half of the fireworks show, so this year we went with friends to watch them.  I can think of no better way to pass time than photographing people so that’s what I did while we waited for the show.  It was so much fun.  So fun.

Warning: photo techie talk.  Probably close to a year ago I bought my 17-55 f/2.8.  It’s an awesome lens, super sharp and my first zoom.  It’s pretty much been on my camera 99% of the time since I bought it.  Lately though I’ve been feeling like I’m stuck in a rut so I pulled out my dusty 50mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.8 lenses and decided to practice shooting wide open.  Shooting at f/1.4 can be kind of tricky, but the results are so incredibly beautiful.

Seven months

I’ve been really lucky to have had quite a few newborn shoots lately.  I love them, but they make me a little sad because they really show just how fast my baby is growing.  June 30th marked seven months.  Oh Claire, how can you already be seven months old?   You’re such a sweet love, baby.  I’m so blessed.

This one’s for you, Grandpa

Last summer my father-in-law took the big kids to Crater Lake to go camping and came back with this absolutely adorable park ranger outfit for Madeline.  She actually wore it to a Halloween party last year but I really wanted to get her out in the trees somewhere to do real pictures for Grandpa.  We went hiking on Friday so I had her wear it and she was so so so cute.  I know, I’m biased, but come on…she’s cute.

Little Lea

I love newborn sessions.  I just can’t say that enough!  Today I got to meet the lovely Miss Lea.  She has the most beautiful little face, just absolutely adorable.  Congratulations to your family!  I can’t wait to watch her grow up and I can’t wait for the next, even more challenging, family photo!

Sweet sweet Sophia

I had a newborn shoot yesterday with the adorable Miss Sophia, she was a doll.  A full (I’m not even kidding) head of hair and sweetest little features.  I got to try out the baby cocoon that I made, too.  I’m so going to buy more yarn and make more of them - I love the way it photographed!

My family

First off, I thought I’d update you on where I’m at with my March resolutions.

Blogging more.  Well, not really.
365-day picture project.  The one that I was going to start on April 1st.  Then May 1st.  It’s just not going to happen.
But, I actually finished week 8 of the couch to 5k today and have one week left!  I even signed up for my first 5k race.  May 30th!  Woohoo!  Still not addicted to exercise, but I have to admit I do feel better since I started.

One out of three’s not bad.  And hey, I’m blogging.

For a while our family had a VW Eurovan.  1993, pop-top, the large white squeaky box on wheels.  We used to hop in and then cross our fingers that we’d get where we wanted to go.   As fun(ky) as the van was, we decided to sell it.  We went almost a year as a family of six, then seven, driving two cars every time we all wanted to go do something - not very convenient!  So, for my birthday this year my husband sold his Xterra and we bought a 2005 Honda Odyssey.  And now to the point - this past weekend we were finally able to go do something as a family!  We went up to Dunsmuir, hiked to Mossbrae Falls and had a picnic.  Lovely!

A few snaps from that trip:

And Madeline.  For some reason, messy room and all, I just love this one:

#5 on Cinco de Mayo!

I had a maternity shoot on Cinco de Mayo for my friend that is pregnant with baby #5!  I promised myself that I would edit the entire session before posting on my blog, but I just don’t have the patience.  I get excited about the images and I have to share them!  I had fun trying out some different processing on these - I am really loving how they turned out.

And this was one of those totally candid moments that I ended up loving:

She does smile!

Claire will be five months old tomorrow.  She’s almost sitting on her own (she’ll do it, until she realizes that she’s sitting and then she flops over), trying so hard to crawl, waking up a million times a night (hopefully a short-lived phase), and finally, smiling.  And what a beautiful smile it is.  I love you, Claire-bear.

Beautiful baby Emma

She’s here!  Today I got to take pictures of her and she is so cute!  Thank you so much, Grace, for letting me photograph her.  You look amazing, too.  Gorgeous family!!

Here are two of my favorites:

This is what happens

when you come and visit me.  You’ll get in the shower and leave your child in my care (first mistake, haha!) to get out and find me happily taking pictures of your baby.

This weekend my best friend came up with her son to visit.  First off, it was soooooooo great to see her.  I hate that she lives in San Francisco - partly because I’m jealous, but mostly because it’s just far enough away that we don’t get to see each other very often.  We quickly learned though that two babies without a nap schedule plus a very, ummm, helpful three year old is so exhausting!  Totally totally worth it, but man.  Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.  I had all of these plans and I knew I wanted to get pictures of Matthew but of course it didn’t at all turn out like I thought!  He and Claire just liked to make each other cry!  But I did get some really cute shots, at least I think.  I miss you already, Melissa!
